Years of academic experience: Approximately 10 years (since 2013), encompassing my doctoral studies in Service Management (with a concentration in Tourism) at the University of Guelph from 2013 to 2017, followed by faculty positions as an Assistant Professor at Universidade Europeia, Lisbon, Portugal (2017-2019), and at Mount Saint Vincent University in Canada from 2019 to the present, where I have served as both Assistant and Associate Professor.

Joined ISTTE by attending the 2023 ISTTE Conference in Toronto, Canada, which provided valuable insights and connections within the field of travel and tourism education.
Years of industry experience:
Three years of consulting experience in China, working with diverse entities including private, state-owned, and foreign companies. My projects encompassed a range of areas such as theme park developments, real estate development, sustainable tourism initiatives and urban planning. This experience provided me with a broad perspective on practical aspects of tourism and hospitality management.
Why would you like to join the ISTTE Board (max 100 words)?
My aspiration to join the ISTTE Board stems from a desire to learn from and contribute to innovations in tourism and travel education globally. I aim to integrate these insights into my programs, preparing students not only for academic pursuits but also for industry professions. My experiences, including identifying key issues in our collaborative programs in China and understanding the evolving demographics of students, will be invaluable. Attendance at industry events has further enriched my perspective, which I am eager to contribute to ISTTE’s mission.
How would you be able to contribute to the progression of ISTTE (max 130 words)?
I bring a unique perspective shaped by my academic and professional experiences across Europe, Canada, and China. Actively teaching international students has highlighted the shifting demographics in higher education, from traditional high school graduates to mature industry professionals and students from emerging countries. This exposure allows me to understand diverse student challenges, such as cultural adaptation and professional development. My expertise in tourism and travel industry, coupled with my international background, positions me to contribute significantly to ISTTE’s progression, addressing both current and future educational needs in our rapidly evolving field.

Why would you like to join the ISTTE Board (max 100 words)?
I got to know about the ISTTE many years ago when I attended its annual conference as a graduate student. I was very impressed with the friendly and supportive environment the organization created for its members. Throughout the years, I have seen myself benefit a lot from being a member of the ISTTE and feel it’s time for me to take a more active role and contribute to this prestigious professional organization. I believe serving on the ISTTE Board is a great way to give back and support the professional community.
How would you be able to contribute to the progression of ISTTE (max 130 words)? The ISTTE is an international organization for professionals in travel, tourism and related fields. Its members are from different parts of the world. My international experience in hospitality and tourism can bring a diverse perspective to the board. I would like to foster an inclusive environment that encourages collaboration, communication and mentorship. I will create opportunities to seek and listen to the voices of our members, and thus tailor our activities to better meet their needs and expectations. Through webinars, conferences and other networking opportunities, I would like to enhance members’ overall experience with the organization.

Why would you like to join the ISTTE Board (max 100 words)?
To serve the community of tourism education, as well as to be inspired by the community of tourism education, ISTTE is the best platform for this purpose. I firmly believe that passion is a key engine for both tourism / hospitality careers and education, while a community with networking, collaborating, and thoughts-exchanging opportunities is the fuel for sustaining this passion.
How would you be able to contribute to the progression of ISTTE (max 130 words)? Having taught and managed tourism programs in higher educational institutes in Macao, Hong Kong, and mainland China for over 20 years, I have accumulated substantive experience with HEIs in the three places, as well as a large network where potential collaboration opportunities can be identified. By serving on the Board of Directors-at-large, I will strive to foster collaboration between the three places and other ISTTE member institutes. By serving as a bridge between the English community and the Chinese speaking community, it is also my desire to promote both student exchange as well as faculty level collaboration, via creating and identifying opportunities in the ISTTE platform. .

ISTTE is an esteemed and active academic organization in which members are the leading scholars and activists who contribute a lot to the global development and reformation of tourism and hospitality education. By joining this influential group, I wish to share my research output in tourism and hospitality education, at the same time I believe ISTTE is a good intellectual exchange platform where I would receive inspiration and synergy from the group. In this regard, joining ISTTE is beneficial to strengthening my research expertise as well as to gaining more collaboration opportunities, both in terms of teaching and researching.How would you be able to contribute to the progression of ISTTE (max 130 words)? With nearly two decades of teaching and researching experience in tourism and hospitality management education, I would like to support ISTTE by serving as one of the Directors-at-Large. In addition to my years of social service provided to the Government of Macao Special Administrative region and to the renowned community associations worldwide, I believe my professional and personal contacts would lend support to me and contribute to ISTTE to support its members. More specifically, I would like to support ISTTE by having more synergistic collaborations among ISTTE, education institutes, local authorities in Macao, the Greater Bay Area of China, as well as Asia Pacific region including Austria and New Zealand. Collaborations could be undertaken in various forms, such as institutional academic and cultural exchange activities among the students and members of ISTTE.
